HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT

The old expression “hiding in plain sight” is truly apropos in today’s business world. Even small businesses have thousands and thousands of data points residing on their systems—for instance: customer data bases, financials, sales reports, lists of sales leads, lost customers, invoices, supply chain information, payroll, and inventories. These data sets represent significant opportunities to understand how your business might perform at higher levels of efficiency and profitability. Typically residing in plain sight, these lines and lines of data go neglected for several reasons:

• Not formatted in dashboards that illuminate valuable insights (programming)
• Not resourced or staffed to format those dashboards (programmers)
• Perception that the cost of formatting is too high or the absence of an ROI (cost)
• Don’t know where to begin (action plan)

HOW WE CREATE VALUE/PROJECTS

A DIFFERENT WAY TO PARTNER

B2G is different in a lot of ways but particularly in how we choose our investment of time and talent with our partners. Time and talent are a blessing and a curse---you can’t have enough of or squander either. Consequently, we try to choose wisely. We look at our choices (projects) through three lenses or tiers.

TIER THREE
Tier Three is a pure consulting gig: design, build and deliver a data analytics tool or dashboard. Consider a company that wishes to take their KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) and create a better way to track or compare them. In that sort of project, we would work with our client to design the tool (architecture), build the platform (programming) and successfully deploy it on whatever device or devices (desktop or mobile). After understanding the requirements, we would make a proposal for such a deliverable.

TIER TWO
A Tier Two project is different than a Three because it’s on-going. Here’s an example of a current Tier Two project:

• Partner/Client has an extensive, national clientele that is dependent of a proprietary data base. In years past, the partner was reliant on a cumbersome spreadsheet that required many expensive hours to collect, organize and reformat.

• B2G has eliminated the pain and expense of the previous methodology and enhanced the product by making it available via the web AND most importantly in a nimble platform that allows the end user tremendous flexibility, hence value, in how they use the information (compare, contrast, create peer groups, and forecast).

By partnering with B2G, our client/partner has a permanent business intelligence “backroom.” Not only have they enhanced their legacy product, they’ve launched a whole new division of their company that has dramatically increased their cash and profitability--all from the same data that they had previously collected! TIER ONE
A Tier One project is really more of a joint venture. Here’s an example of what we mean:

• Our partner is an SME (subject matter expert). Not only does he possess a deep understanding of his field, he has loads of “relational capital.”
• Within his field there are several thousand potential clients that all possess the same “blind spot.” In this case, they really need a database of salary information that just doesn’t exist.
• What we’ve created is the database that addresses the needs of the practitioners and we, along with our Tier One partner, have created a subscription based model.
• The subscription is relatively cheap compared to the magnitude of the decisions made by the subscribers.

If you’ve got the idea and the channel, we’ll gladly entertain a joint venture to help both of us create a high value product or service.

As a kid I was into numbers, being on teams and competition. Well I guess now I am just an older kid as I am still into the same things. My education is in accounting and I have always been told I don’t seem like an accountant. I don’t know if that is a compliment or not. My career has crossed over from accounting to operations to ownership. The last company I led was having serious cash flow problems and our team was able to tighten our belt and turn the company into a very profitable one. This was accomplished with teamwork, understanding our numbers and the will to win.

I graduated from Fresno State and was drafted seven rounds earlier than Gary (11th Round) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I’ve been active in civic and non-profit organizations serving as president of the Rotary and hospital foundation board.

I lost the coin flip and they made me CEO. Where Bob brings operations and spreadsheet wizardry; Brian design, analytics, and technology; my talents lend themselves to relational capital and big dreams. Over past two decades, I’ve been fortunate to partner with some amazing people to create enterprises which focus on human capital consulting, talent acquisition, healthcare, financial services and now, business intelligence.

My degree is in education (physics and English); I pitched in the Pirates organization and co-authored a book called Distance to the Green. I remain active at my alma mater, University of Central Missouri as a member of the Foundation and Alumni Board.

Brian Finucane
CHIEF DATA OFFICER

For the first fifteen years of my career I told people I wasn't an IT person.  But, once teams found I was able to develop code, the requests for technology would come flooding in.  Over time I found the common theme was business teams trying to access data trapped in one system or distributed across many different systems. Forming B2G data helped me to do what I did best, bring data together as simple visualizations which could help teams make money.  Now, I don’t mind being the technology person because this is business technology.

Currently I’m an adjunct professor at Rockhurst University; three time Big East Academic All Star swimmer at Villanova graduating with a BS in Finance and an MBA in Management.
